How long do car tyres last?

Typically somewhere between 40,000 and 60,000 kilometres, but that range is wide because it depends on the tyre, the vehicle, alignment, pressures and how it is driven. Age matters independently of tread: rubber hardens and cracks over time, so a tyre that has been on a lightly used car for many years can be unsafe while still showing plenty of tread.
